When this tool is useful

Create a JPG version of a PNG image. The right choice depends on what is actually wrong with the image. If the dimensions are correct but the file is too heavy, start with compression. If the image is physically larger than the destination needs, resizing can remove unnecessary pixels. If another system requires a different file type, conversion is the appropriate step.

How it works

The core operation runs in your browser using the selected file and the browser's image and Canvas capabilities. The generated result is offered as a local download. This design is intended to avoid a server-side image upload for the core operation.

Keep your original. A converted or compressed copy is best treated as a delivery version. Keep the original if you may need to edit or export it again later.

Common questions

What happens to transparent pixels?

JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas must therefore be represented by a background color when converted.

Is JPG smaller than PNG?

For many photographs and complex images, yes. For simple graphics with flat colors or transparency, PNG can sometimes be the better choice.

Does PNG to JPG lower quality?

JPG uses lossy compression, so the output can lose some detail depending on the quality setting.
